Giancarlo Stanton Delivers Game-Winning Hit
4 years agoNew York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and an RBI in Sunday's victory over the Nationals. Stanton earned free passes in each of his first two trips to the plate, then later stepped up to the dish in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and third and delivered a game-winning single. The slugger had ridden a 12-game hitting streak but fell back down to earth with an 0-for-8 stretch, so it was good to see him come up with a big hit. Stanton is batting .292 with a .914 OPS and nine homers so far in 2021. He'll get a scheduled off-day before three matchups against left-handed starters in the upcoming series versus the Rays. Stanton has just a .648 OPS against southpaws this year.
