Gerrit Cole Tests Positive For COVID-19
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole (COVID-19) tested positive for COVID-19 Monday and will not make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners, according to manager Aaron Boone. Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes will take the ball tomorrow instead of Cole. No word on how long Yankees ace will be on the shelf for and Cole has not been placed on the COVID-19 injured list as of yet. The 30-year-old is 10-6 on the season with a 3.11 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 2.82 FIP, and a league-leading 176 strikeouts over 130 1/3 innings. With starting pitchers Luis Severino and Corey Kluber not expected back until late August, and Domingo German being placed on the injured list Sunday, the Yankees are running thin on pitching depth and might have to resort to a bullpen day or two until there's more information on Cole.
