Gerrit Cole Surrenders Five Runs In Loss
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole took his third loss of the season in Thursday's 9-2 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday. Cole pitched five innings, allowing five runs on five hits with two walks issued. The ace righty struck out seven and generated 15 whiffs on 92 pitches, though he didn't quite have his sharpest stuff. Cole was mistake-free until the fourth and fifth innings, where poorly located changeups came back to bite him. Despite the subpar effort, Cole still owns a 2.26 ERA with a 104:11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 75 2/3 innings pitched. He'll face the Minnesota Twins on June 9. Cole has faced the Twins once in his career, pitching seven shutout innings with 11 punchouts.
