Gerrit Cole Shines In Battle Of Aces
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole answered the bell for his team in a battle against Indians' ace Shane Bieber. Cole earned his third win of the season, pitching seven innings of one-run ball and allowing three hits while striking out 11 batters with no walks. The 30-year-old ace worked easy frames in his first two innings, then ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth inning before finding his second gear en route to retiring nine straight. 75 of his 111 pitches were strikes, and he generated 15 swinging strikes, 10 of them on breaking balls. Cole has been fantastic and will carry a 1.71 ERA and a 50:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio across five starts into his next outing, scheduled for April 29 against the Orioles.
