Gerrit Cole Pitches Masterpiece In Win Over Rays
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole tossed a masterpiece in a 1-0 win over the Rays on Wednesday night. Cole pitched eight shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out 12 batters with zero walks. The ace right-hander was untouchable, as he generated 24 swinging strikes and had an incredible 43 percent CSW. Cole was at the 94-pitch mark after seven innings- but had plenty left in the tank for the eighth frame, as he struck out the side on 12 pitches. He now sports a 5-1 record and a 1.37 ERA across 52 2/3 innings with a 78:3 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Cole is an absolute beast on the mound and a must-start in any fantasy format every time he pitches. He'll face the Rangers next- they've posted the eighth-worst strikeout rate in the league.
