Gerrit Cole Notches Quality Start In No-Decision
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole was effective over six innings of work despite not factoring into the decision on Friday night. Cole allowed one run over his six frames with six hits and a walk. He struck out five batters, his second-lowest total of the season. The ace right-hander generated 14 whiffs, and though he didn't have his best putaway stuff, he was still able to keep runs off the scoreboard. Cole didn't get any help from the Yankee offense, something that has happened in a few of his starts already. He ranks among the 10 best starters in baseball in wins, ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP, with a career-high 35.1 percent K-BB rate to boot. Cole lines up to take on the Tampa Bay Rays in his next start. He was masterful against them earlier this season, striking out 12 batters in eight shutout frames.
