Gerrit Cole Gives Up Five Earned Runs In Loss To Red Sox
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole was rocked for six runs (five earned) in a 9-2 loss against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. The three-time All-Star managed to get through five innings but gave up eight hits, three home runs and two walks while striking out six. The outing represented the right-hander's worst of the season, and his spin rate was once again down compared to his season average. However, Cole's performance wasn't all doom and gloom, as the righty posted an absurd 44% CSW on his slider. Cole is now 8-4 on the season with a 2.66 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 129 strikeouts over 101 2/3 innings in 16 starts. The Bronx ace will look to rebound on Friday against the Mets.
