Gerrit Cole Fails To Go Two Innings Against Tigers
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole struggled immensely to command his pitches in Tuesday's game against the Detroit Tigers. He pitched just 1 2/3 innings and surrendered five walks, one hit and two earned runs while striking out three. Only 37 of his 68 pitches wound up as strikes. Cole was hit pretty hard in his first two starts of the year, allowing a combined six earned runs over 9 2/3 innings. However, neither of his first two starts were as alarming as Tuesday's appearance, when he couldn't even make it out of the second inning. We'll see if he can turn things around in his next start on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians.
