German Marquez Dealing With Pain In Triceps
German Marquez (triceps) had an exam in Cleveland after leaving his start Wednesday early against the Guardians. Marquez is dealing with pain in his right triceps, but not his forearm, where his previous injury was. A team doctor is encouraged, but Marquez will have an MRI exam in Denver on Thursday. The 28-year-old just came off the 15-day injured list with right forearm inflammation, so hopefully he can avoid another trip back to the IL after allowing three runs on six hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out four in just 3 2/3 innings in a loss Wednesday. We'll know more on Thursday, but fantasy managers should prepare for the worst.

German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, Lucas Gilbreath All Healthy
German Marquez, Antonio Senzatela, and Lucas Gilbreath are healthy entering spring training. All three pitchers underwent Tommy John surgery during the 2023 campaign. Marquez was able to log four innings of work last season but then battled a stress reaction, which kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season. Senzatela made three starts during the final month of the season and held a hefty 6.57 ERA with a 1.86 WHIP. Gilbreath returned to the mound in August but then returned to the injured list shortly after with shoulder inflammation. Marquez was a reliable contributor to the starting rotation during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, where he logged 361 2/3 total innings. Marquez and Senzatela will likely have a role in the starting rotation in 2025, while Gilbreath will be deployed out of the bullpen.

German Marquez Shut Down For Rest Of The Season
German Marquez (elbow) has been shut down for the rest of the 2024 season after being diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right elbow. However, the good news is that there is no damage to the ligaments in his right arm. Marquez should be ready to throw in six to eight weeks, according to manager Bud Black, and will have a full offseason. The 29-year-old Venezuelan hurler worked his way back from Tommy John surgery last year but was only able to make one start in 2024 before being shut down with more elbow issues. In his lone start on July 14 against the New York Mets, Marquez gave up three earned runs while walking four and fanning three in four innings. Barring further setbacks this offseason, Marquez should be ready for spring training in 2025, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues can ignore him.

German Marquez Logs Second Bullpen Session
German Marquez (elbow) has thrown two bullpen sessions since returning to the injured list in late July. Marquez returned to the bump on July 14 after his long recovery from Tommy John but, unfortunately, was diagnosed with elbow inflammation. Manager Bud Black expressed that the 29-year-old will need to log one more successful bullpen session before embarking on a rehab assignment. Marquez has been limited by several injuries over the past two seasons but hopes to return to a full-time role hopefully before the end of the month. Marquez could be worth stashing in deeper leagues as he should have a secure spot in the rotation once he returns.

German Marquez Placed On Injured List
German Marquez (elbow) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right-elbow inflammation, retroactive to July 19. The right-hander is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, so Marquez having a setback shouldn't be shocking. He made one start since coming off the injured list. He pitched against the New York Mets ahead of the All-Star break. Marquez will now be sidelined for at least another two weeks. In a corresponding move, right-hander Noah Davis has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque. Davis hasn't offered much upside to the Rockies pitching staff over the last few seasons. Fantasy managers can ignore Davis going forward.
