3 years agoPhiladelphia 76ers power forward Georges Niang (knee) was able to suit up for Tuesday's practice, a positive step in the right direction in his return from left knee tendinopathy. Niang missed the final two games of the regular season due to the ailment, but head coach Doc Rivers noted Tuesday that the team was being cautious with one of its premier reserve players. Niang set career highs in 2021-22 with 9.2 points and 2.1 made triples on a nightly basis during the regular season, emerging as a key contributor in the frontcourt. He will have until Saturday to heal up when the Sixers take on the Raptors in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs.--Jesse Borek

1 month agoBrad Rowland of the Locked On Podcast Network reports that Atlanta Hawks forward Georges Niang won't debut with his new club on Friday versus the Milwaukee Bucks. The trade that recently sent him from the Cavs is still being finalized. Niang's next chance to play is on Saturday on the road versus the Wizards in Washington. The 31-year-old, across 51 games in Cleveland, averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 20.6 minutes per contest. His role with his new team is uncertain, so he will likely have a limited impact on fantasy for now.--Andrew Lennox - RotoBaller

1 month agoThe Atlanta Hawks acquired forward Georges Niang along with Caris LeVert, three second-round picks, and two swaps in exchange for De'Andre Hunter. Hunter became expendable after the emergence of Jalen Johnson before his season-ending shoulder injury and the strong rookie showing of No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher. Niang and LeVert could help fill in while Johnson is out, but more likely they'll mix into the second unit behind Risacher. Niang played 51 games for the Cavs this season, starting just one contest. He averaged 8.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his 20.6 minutes per game. If he steps into a larger role, he could be a decent source of three-pointers and rebounds, but his role with his new team is uncertain at this point.--Zach Thompson - RotoBaller

2 years agoCleveland Cavaliers forward Georges Niang spoke to The Eagle-Tribune and was thrilled about his role on his new team. The veteran forward said "They have some really good young talent and were looking for a veteran shooter and I was looking for a team that is dedicated to winning. It's a perfect fit." The 30-year-old is coming off two of the best seasons of his career as he filled a bench shooter role perfectly for the 76ers. Now, he gets a chance to do the same alongside Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, and Donovan Mitchell.--Alex Fischbein - RotoBaller

2 years agoAccording to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Georges Niang is signing a contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. It will be a three-year, $26 million deal, but it hasn't been reported whether it contains a player option. The 30-year-old forward was a good role player the last few seasons and a key member on several playoff teams. He averaged 8.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 78 games for the 76ers last season. The Cavaliers have struggled to get production from the wing position, so this signing surely should help.--Daniel Leonard - RotoBaller
