George Springer Homers Twice Versus Royals
4 years agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer hit a pair of long balls on Saturday to help his club defeat the Royals 4-0. He took Mike Minor's first offering of the game deep down the left field line in the first, and then followed that up with a two-run tater to right-center in the third for his 11th bomb of the season. Since his return to the leadoff spot in the lineup last weekend, the 31-year-old is hitting .333 with four homers, seven RBI, and 11 runs scored as his bat appears to be rounding into mid-season form. After missing most of the first half with injuries, managers should expect Springer to put up a stellar finish to the 2021 season.

George Springer Heads To The Bench
7 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer and catcher Alejandro Kirk are both out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels at Rogers Centre. Rookie Addison Barger, who had a walk-off home run on Friday night, is starting in right field and is hitting seventh, while Brian Serven is doing the catching and batting ninth against Angels right-hander Carson Fulmer. Springer could use the day off after going hitless in eight at-bats with two strikeouts in the last two contests against the Halos. He's also hitting just .171 (13-for-76) in 19 games in August, although he has contributed four home runs, a double, triple and 10 RBI. Barger, 24, does have two home runs this month, but he's mostly struggled in his first 123 MLB at-bats, going 22-for-123 (.179) with four home runs, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored for the Jays.

George Springer Resting On Sunday
7 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is out of the starting lineup ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. The veteran outfielder returned from a shin injury on Saturday. That being said, Springer appears to be getting a routine rest day here, so fantasy managers shouldn't need to worry about the injury anymore. Addison Barger will cover right field and bat seventh versus right-hander Gerrit Cole. Fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option than Barger in this tough matchup.

George Springer Resting In Series Finale
8 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer will retreat to the bench on Sunday as the Blue Jays look for the three-game series sweep of the visiting Texas Rangers. With Springer sitting, rookie Addison Barger will draw into the lineup in right field and will bat seventh against Rangers right-hander Jon Gray. The 34-year-old Springer is hitting only .227 (81-for-357) on the year, but he's been useful in most fantasy leagues for his power/speed contributions as a lineup regular in Toronto with 13 long balls, 12 stolen bases, 40 RBI and 50 runs scored in 97 games played. The four-time All-Star has also been much better in the month of July, going 22-for-81 (.272) with five round-trippers, four doubles, a triple, 15 RBI, six walks and four stolen bases in 21 games. Barger will be facing Gray for the first time in his career.

George Springer In Leadoff Spot On Wednesday
8 months agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is serving as the designated hitter and is batting leadoff on Wednesday versus the visiting Houston Astros and right-hander Ronel Blanco. A rough start to the season got Springer dropped near the bottom of Toronto's batting order in May, but a recent offensive resurgence has allowed the 34-year-old to get another shot as the table-setter for a Blue Jays team looking for a spark. Springer is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 12-for-24 with four home runs, two doubles, 12 RBI and five runs scored to raise his season slash line to .215/.301/.349 with a .650 OPS in 284 at-bats. He's probably going to need to stay hot to remain in the leadoff spot, and he'll have a tough matchup on Wednesday against Blanco, who he's gone hitless against in five career at-bats.
