5 months agoSeattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is in a great position to succeed against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12. The Cardinals are allowing 218.5 passing yards per game which is No. 21 in the league. The Seahawks were much more efficient as an offense and displayed balance in Week 11 against the San Francisco 49ers. If the team made substantial changes during their Week 10 bye, then Smith should be able to take advantage of this positive matchup. The Cardinals roll into Seattle hot off a four-game winning streak and will be well-rested after a Week 11 bye. However, the Seahawks' receiving core should be fully healthy with wide receiver DK Metcalf off the injury report. Smith should be able to pass for over 200 yards and deliver a couple of touchdowns. In a week in which six teams are on a bye, Smith deserves to be in fantasy lineups.--Quincy Milton III - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoThe Las Vegas Raiders and quarterback Geno Smith agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension on Thursday to better compensate him for his play after the blockbuster trade this offseason in which they acquired him from the Seattle Seahawks, sources tell NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz is reporting that the deal is worth $85 million and includes $66.5 million guaranteed. The 34-year-old former second-rounder (39th overall) by the New York Jets in 2013 out of West Virginia has been a late-bloomer, earning Pro Bowl nods in 2022 and 2023 in Seattle. Smith threw for a career-high 4,320 yards with 21 TDs and 15 interceptions in 17 starts in 2024 and will reunite with head coach Pete Carroll in Vegas. He'll get to work with impressive young TE Brock Bowers, but his wide receiving corps will be a big downgrade from what he had in Seattle. Treat Smith as a QB2 target in fantasy in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoLas Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said on Monday that the team is "working on it" in regards to a long-term contract extension with quarterback Geno Smith. The 34-year-old veteran signal-caller turned down the Seattle Seahawks' initial contract offer after the scouting combine in February, which led Seattle to eventually trade Smith to the Raiders in a surprising move. Smith and Carroll will be working together again in 2025 after they were together in Seattle from 2020-23. Smith was a Pro Bowler in both 2022 and 2023 under Carroll, completing 67.4$ of his pass attempts for 7,906 combined passing yards, 50 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 32 starts. The familiarity between the two is a plus, but other than tight end Brock Bowers, Smith's weapons in his new home are questionable, at best, making him more of a QB2 target yet again in fantasy in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoThe Las Vegas Raiders surprisingly acquired quarterback Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks last Friday in exchange for a third-round pick in this year's draft and are now likely to reward him with a long-term contract extension that he was hoping the Seahawks would give him, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The addition of Smith doesn't necessarily mean the Raiders won't take a rookie signal-caller with the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, but it's probably much less likely now that they've addressed the most important position in football for the foreseeable future. The 34-year-old Smith was a Pro Bowler in 2022 and 2023 in Seattle and threw for 4,320 yards, 21 TDs and 15 interceptions in 17 games last year. He is going from a receiving corps of DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett to Jakobi Meyers and tight end Brock Bowers, so it's a downgrade in terms of weapons. Depending on what else the Raiders do in free agency and the draft, Smith profiles as a midrange QB2, at best, heading into 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

2 months agoThe Seattle Seahawks traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2025 third-round pick on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Smith will be reunited with his former head coach Pete Carroll as the Raiders look to finally solve their hole at the quarterback position. According to the Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Seahawks are now looking to sign Sam Darnold to replace Smith under center in Seattle. Smith, who succeeded Russell Wilson as the Seahawks' quarterback, threw 71 touchdowns and 35 interceptions in his three years starting under center for Seattle. The Raiders are expected to sign Smith to a new deal, with the veteran quarterback looking to make between $40 and $45 million per season. Smith's arrival in Las Vegas can be considered an upgrade for all of the Raiders' pass-catchers heading into the 2025 season.--Matt T - RotoBaller
