Gavin Lux's Defense "Driver" Of Decision To Shift Back To Second Base
9 months agoLos Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated on Friday that infielder Gavin Lux will shift to second base while Mookie Betts will be handling shortstop duties. Lux's defense at second base was a crucial driver in the decision to put Lux at keystone and move Betts over shortstop. He experienced issues throwing the ball during spring training. The move is "permanent, for now," said Roberts. Lux will play most of the season at second base and could sit against lefties. The 26-year-old played 129 games at second base in 2022 before missing all of last season with a torn ACL and MCL. He slashed .276/.346/.399 with six home runs, 42 RBI, 66 runs, and seven stolen bases over 471 plate appearances. His presence will provide stability at a position that the Dodgers juggled around in 2023. Lux has excellent plate discipline (10.1 BB%), an NFBC ADP of 260, and will look to bounce back in 2024 from last season's gruesome injury. RotoBaller has Lux ranked as the 28th overall second baseman, and he could be a late-round value if he can come close to his 2022 totals despite hitting in the bottom third of a loaded Dodgers lineup.
