3 years agoThe New York Jets begin the 2022 season with a cavalcade of young budding offensive talent. Sophomore wide receiver Elijah Moore leads the way along with quarterback Zach Wilson and fellow rookies Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. The former Ohio State star was selected 10th overall in the April draft and was considered the most pro-ready of any wide receiver in the class. Wilson dominated the college landscape last fall, posting 70 receptions for 1,058 yards (15.1 YPC), 12 TDs, and had the 12th-highest passer rating when targeted (141.7) in all of CFB. He also averaged 3.00 yards per route run even though 83% of his snaps took place lined up outside. Zach Wilson has been praising Garrett Wilson so far in camp, saying, "The dude's a sponge. He's soaking it up; he's learning a bunch." While Wilson's hopes for a promising rookie season hinge on the shoulders of his inconsistent but young quarterback, his potential upside is too good to ignore. He's more valuable in dynasty leagues right now but has value in redraft leagues, being that he is going around WR50. While it is unlikely to expect a rookie breakout from the 2022 class previously seen from players like Justin Jefferson or Ja'Marr Chase if there is a rookie to break out onto the scene and leave defensive backfields everywhere in the dust, it will undoubtedly be Wilson.--Kyle Lindemann - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoThe Athletic's Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt write that New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson will be the no-doubt No. 1 target in this offense in 2025 and should have a big season as he reunites with quarterback Justin Fields, who he played with in college at Ohio State. As a freshman for the Buckeyes in 2020 with Fields at QB, Wilson caught 50 passes for 729 yards and seven touchdowns. Fields' ability to run the football should make life easier on running back Breece Hall. Not only does Wilson have prior history and chemistry with Fields, but the primary thing that will make Wilson's fantasy ceiling higher in 2025 is the fact that receiver Davante Adams is out of town. Fields can definitely stand to improve as a passer, but even if he doesn't, Wilson should eat and be a surefire WR1 target in fantasy drafts this fall.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoNew York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is willing to discuss signing a long-term contract extension, according to The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt. Wilson is expected to push for top-10 receiver-type money, which would mean something in the range of $26-30 million per year. While Wilson was one of the first calls that new head coach Aaron Glenn made when he got the job, the Jets won't be in a rush to sign him to a new deal. The 24-year-old is under team control for 2025 and will make $16.82 million on his fifth-year team option in 2026. After that, the franchise tag would be in play in 2027 if they can't come to an agreement on an extension. Wilson wasn't a fan of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, especially after the Jets traded for his best buddy, receiver Davante Adams last year. Now that both Rodgers and Adams are on their way out the door, Wilson should be the team's unquestioned No. 1 wideout again in 2025.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

1 month agoESPN New York's Rich Cimini writes that quarterback Aaron Rodgers' eventual departure greatly increases the chances of wide receiver Garrett Wilson returning to the New York Jets. Their was tension between Rodgers and Wilson last year, which started in training camp and came to a head late in the regular season, leading to speculation that Wilson could request a trade. In 11 games with both Wilson and Davante Adams on the team, Adams was targeted 112 times (third-most in the league, while Wilson saw just 87 targets. The 24-year-old Wilson is coming off his third straight 1,000-yard receiving campaign and should be the Jets' unquestioned No. 1 pass-catcher next year after they move on from Adams. Although Wilson should have a much safer target floor in 2025 with Adams out of the picture, his fantasy value will depend a lot on who the Jets tab as their next QB.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

3 months agoNew York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson caught four of his five targets for 51 yards in a 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 18. Wilson finished third on the team in receiving in the high-scoring win while he was held out of the end zone for the sixth time over his final eight games of the season. The Jets' decision to acquire Davante Adams at the trade deadline cut into Wilson's production over the back half of the season but he still finished with career highs in catches (102), receiving yards (1,104), and touchdowns (seven). Wilson vented some frustration about his role in December and there have been rumors he could demand a trade this offseason if Aaron Rodgers remains the team's quarterback, although he later went on record to state that his relationship with Rodgers was fine. It would be a surprise if the Jets were willing to part with their talented stud 24-year-old receiver this offseason.--Matt T - RotoBaller
