Garrett Whitlock Signs Four-Year Extension
3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox announced on Sunday that they have signed right-hander Garrett Whitlock to an undisclosed four-year contract extension for the 2023-26 seasons. The extension includes team options for 2027 and 2028. Whitlock has the ability to throw multiple innings out of the bullpen or serve as a high-leverage arm for Boston, so he's a valuable pitching asset for the team. The 25-year-old had a very nice 1.96 ERA and 1.10 WHIP while notching his first two career saves in 73 1/3 relief innings last season. He may not see many save chances as long as Matt Barnes is healthy and effective, but Whitlock could be valuable for his ratios in deeper leagues and if he's eventually shifted to a starting role.
