Garrett Crochet 2025 Player Outlook: Elite K% And Improved Environment, But Stamina Threatens ADP
18 mins agoThe Boston Red Sox acquired starting pitcher Garrett Crochet this offseason after a breakout year for the White Sox. The 25-year-old had worked exclusively as a reliever prior to last season, but was a first-time All-Star as a starter in 2024, recording a 3.58 ERA (2.53 SIERA), 1.07 WHIP, and an elite 29.6% K-BB% over 146 IP. The former first-round draft pick missed all of 2022 after Tommy John surgery and was limited to 25 IP in 2023, so Chicago monitored the southpaw's innings from July onward last year. By halves, the 6-foot-6 hurler averaged nearly six innings per start with a 3.02 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and a 0.89 HR/9 through June, but three innings per start, a 4.84 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and a 1.61 HR/9 the rest of the season. While the K% and BB% were steady throughout, he was more hittable in the latter half, perhaps wearing down. Still, with a career 32.3% K%, the lefty will get more opportunities for wins pitching in Boston and is a front-runner for the AL Cy Young, but it will cost you the 35th pick according to his NFBC ADP. RotoBaller is less bullish on Crochet, ranking him at 49 overall.
