Garrett Cooper Comes Up Clutch On Thursday
2 years agoMiami Marlins first baseman Garrett Cooper came up big with a game-winning double in a come-from-behind 5-4 win over the Braves in Atlanta. Down 4-0 heading into the top of the ninth, the Marlins scored three runs to cut the deficit to one before Cooper clubbed a two-out, two-run double to give the visitors the lead. It was a form of redemption for Cooper, who was at designated hitter Thursday, as he had struck out three times while leaving three men on base prior to his game-winning hit. It's been a solid if unspectacular start to the season for the 32-year-old who now owns a .279 batting average with three home runs alongside a .745 OPS across 22 games to begin the 2023 campaign.
