Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen (undisclosed) has signed a one-year, $2.75 million extension. The 35-year-old was heading toward unrestricted free agency but has decided to remain with the Hurricanes for a fifth consecutive season. In recent years, Andersen has seen limited action due to health issues. Nevertheless, he has proven to be highly reliable for Carolina when healthy, recording a 13-8-1 record this season. Andersen finished the campaign with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage, recording one shutout. He suffered a new injury in the first-round series against the New Jersey Devils but is expected to return for the start of Round 2 against the Washington Capitals.

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen (undisclosed) will miss Tuesday's Game 5 against the New Jersey Devils. He has been labeled as day-to-day after Andersen exited Game 4 with an undisclosed injury. The Hurricanes lose a hot goalie for Tuesday's tilt, as Andersen had posted a 3-1 record in the playoffs with a 1.59 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage. The team will use Pyotr Kochetkov instead of him between the sticks. Kochetkov enjoyed a solid regular season with a 27-16-3 record but has allowed three or more goals in seven consecutive starts.

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen exited Sunday's Game 4 against the New Jersey Devils with an apparent injury. Pyotr Kochetkov replaced Andersen in the crease during the second period after he was involved in a collision with Devils forward Timo Meier. Andersen saved six of seven shots before exiting. The Hurricanes No. 1 has been in superb form during the postseason, as he entered Sunday's contest with a 1.48 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage. Losing him for an extended stretch would be a blow for the Hurricanes, although Kochetkov has proven himself as a capable performer, posting a 27-16-3 record during the regular season.
