Francisco Alvarez Could See The Majors In 2022
2 years agoNew York Mets catching prospect Francisco Alvarez has been fantastic at Double-A so far this year. Over 50 games, he has a .275/.348/.549 slash line to go along with 13 home runs, 33 RBI and 32 runs. According to Jon Heyman, the Mets aren't ruling out a promotion to the majors for Alvarez this season. Heyman reports that the Mets would prefer to see him at Triple-A first, but if his exceptional hitting continues, he may force the team's hand. The Mets certainly have at least a short-term need at catcher. Starting catcher James McCann (wrist) should be out for about another month. Tomas Nido and Patrick Mazeika will be filling in behind the plate in the meantime.
