Franchy Cordero's Blast Ignites Padres Blowout
7 years agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Franchy Cordero went 2-for-6 with a two-run homer in Monday's blowout win against the Colorado Rockies. Cordero crushed a 456-foot bomb to right center field to spark a nine-run seventh inning for the Padres. The blast gives Cordero a total of four long balls in 46 plate appearances and two in his last three games. With Manuel Margot scuffling (.135/.211/.212), Cordero has earned more playing time in center field and could be gaining favor going forward. His lack of plate discipline (15/2 K/BB) likely won't supply a high batting average, but the power is undeniable. Along with two stolen bases, Cordero sports an .847 OPS and should continue starting versus right-handed pitchers until Margot can recover.
