Fernando Tatis Jr. To Have Surgery Tuesday
6 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop prospect Fernando Tatis Jr. (thumb) will undergo season-ending surgery to fix an avulsion fracture in his left thumb on Tuesday. The expected recovery timeline is six to eight weeks, which means he should have time to prepare for winter ball. Tatis was the third overall prospect in baseball this year, so it's a bummer for Padres fans. He was holding his own at Double-A with a .286 average, 16 home runs and 16 steals and was a candidate to make it up to the big leagues this September. He'll surely be an option to take over the starting shortstop duties at some point in 2019.
