Fernando Rodney Secures 24th Save On Sunday
6 years agoMinnesota Twins closer Fernando Rodney preserved his team's 6-5 win on Sunday by pitching a scoreless ninth inning and earning his 24th save (he got his 23rd on August 3 against the Royals as well). He did allow two hits and walked a batter, but was able to escape scot-free. With Rodney there will almost always be drama, but at 41-years-old he's still proving his worth. The Twins are nine games behind the Cleveland Indians for the American League Central lead so technically they're still alive in the playoff hunt. That said, they will need Rodney — who allowed 15 hits in 12 1/3 innings pitched in July — to continue to limit the damage.
