Felix Hernandez Joining O's On Minor League Deal
4 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles are signing free-agent right-hander Felix Hernandez to a minor league deal on Wednesday, according to sources. The King will make $1 million if he makes the major league roster out of spring training. The 34-year-old former Mariners legend was looking excellent in spring training last year with the Braves before he opted out of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19. The former Cy Young winner had a rough 6.40 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 15 starts for Seattle in his last full season in 2019 and was relegated to a relief role towards the end of the season as a result. Hernandez might have a chance to win a rotation spot if he pitches well in camp, but he'd only be a moderately intriguing low-cost arm in AL-only leagues if that were to happen. Pitching at hitter-friendly Camden Yards in the tough American League East won't help his cause, either.
