5 years agoSan Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane posted a pair of goals and added an assist as his team took down the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 on Thursday. Having recently been promoted to the Shark's top power-play unit, Kane buried two goals on the man advantage - giving him six power-play points on the season. It's been an excellent start to the campaign for the 28-year-old who, despite having missed three games due to suspension, has nine points (six goals, three assists) to go along with 28 shots and 12 hits through seven contests. Playing at a shallow left-wing position in fantasy, Kane is a lineup-lock each night he suits up. He'll look to keep his run going on Friday versus the Maple Leafs.--Chase Davis - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoEdmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane (knee) has resumed skating. The forward will still need several weeks of ramping up before he would be in contention to return to action. The 33-year-old has not played in a game since the Stanley Cup Final in June. Kane underwent several surgeries to repair two hernias and two torn lower abdominal muscles in September, in addition to knee surgery in January. Fantasy managers should continue to keep an eye on his status. If he can continue at this steady pace, he may be able to return before the postseason. Last season across 77 contests, Kane found the back of the net 24 times and added 20 helpers with the Oilers. He logged 250 hits and 29 blocked shots. When he does return to action, he could play in the top six and have value in deeper formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 months agoEdmonton Oilers left wing Evander Kane (abdomen) had knee surgery on Thursday, which requires 4-8 weeks of recovery. The power forward has yet to suit up for the 2024-25 season after undergoing abdominal surgery on Sept. 20 to repair both abductors, two hernias, and two abdominal tears. He was expected to miss 5-6 months because of that procedure, so Kane is also still recovering from the first surgery. It looks like he might end up playing only a handful of regular-season contests for the Oilers in 2024-25. However, Kane's addition will be huge for the team in the postseason, especially if he's back at 100 percent.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

6 months agoEdmonton Oilers left wing Evander Kane (sports hernia) is not expected to be available until January or February after undergoing surgery, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Kane had the procedure done on Friday in New York City. He needed to have repairs done on two torn hip adductor muscles, two hernias, and two torn lower abdominal muscles. All of the injuries came as a result of Kane playing through a sports hernia in 2023-24. Kane's absence leaves the Oilers without an important top-six piece, but the team has added quality to its attack in the summer with the additions of Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson. Both players look set to play an important role for Edmonton right off the bat with Kane unavailable.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

6 months agoEdmonton Oilers left wing Evander Kane (sports hernia) is scheduled to undergo surgery in the next 10 days, Sportsnet's Mark Spector reported Friday. Kane played through a sports hernia all season last year and will now get the issue fixed surgically. It's not yet clear how much time Kane will miss due to the surgery, but he looks set to start the season on Injured Reserve. Kane put up 24 goals and 44 points in 77 games last season. His scoring average of 0.57 points per game marked the lowest he's had since the 2015-16 campaign.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
