Evan Phillips Takes Loss As Opener Monday
6 years agoBaltimore Orioles pitcher Evan Phillips fell to 0-1 in Monday's 5-0 loss to the Blue Jays. In his first career Major League start, a spot start with Andrew Cashner (knee) unable to pitch in his scheduled slot, Phillips allowed three runs on three hits (including a two-run home run) and no walks with two strikeouts in two innings. The 24-year-old now has a massive 13.11 ERA in 11 2/3 innings pitched with the Orioles and Braves this season. However, he has much better numbers at the Triple-A level (1.99 ERA with 13.06 K/9 rate in 40 2/3 IP with Gwinnett, 3.38 ERA with 10.97 K/9 rate in 10 2/3 IP with Norfolk), so he may be worth a look in deeper dynasty leagues as a reliever for his strikeout potential.
