Eury Perez Suffers Broken Nail Saturday
Eury Perez (finger) left his Grapefruit League game against the New York Mets early with a broken fingernail on his right middle finger. The Marlins training staff came out to check on the youngster with one out in the third inning before he left the contest. Thankfully, Perez said he is in no pain and has no concerns in regards to his injury. He went 2 1/3 innings while allowing zero earned runs with one walk against two strikeouts across 36 pitches, 22 of which were strikes. The 20-year-old made his big-league debut in the 2023 season, working to a 3.15 ERA and a healthy 20.6% K-BB% across 19 starts. The club was cautious with his usage a season ago but is projected for 25 starts of 3.88 ERA ball by ATC in the 2024 campaign.

Eury Perez Making Another Rehab Start In Jupiter On Tuesday
Eury Perez (elbow) is set to make another rehab outing with Low-A Jupiter on Tuesday. Perez is currently on the 60-day injured list and working his way back from Tommy John surgery. The team noted that the budding ace is scheduled to make at least eight rehab outings before being in contention to return to the big leagues. So far, the former top prospect has made two rehab outings with Low-A. Across two 2/3 innings of work, Perez has allowed just one hit and held a 4:1 K:BB. He has not allowed a run. The 22-year-old made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and flashed high upside as he held a 3.15 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. He struck out 108 batters and generated an elite .208 xBA. He is worth monitoring as he could be a must-start option in the second half of the campaign.

Eury Perez To Start Rehab Assignment On Saturday
Eury Perez (elbow) will take the next step and start a minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday with Single-A Jupiter, where he's expected to throw one inning for the Hammerheads. Perez appears to be ahead of schedule in his rehab from Tommy John surgery in April of last year, but the Marlins are surely going to take things slow with his rehab assignment on the farm. Still, barring setbacks, the 22-year-old Dominican could make his 2025 season debut in late May or early June for the Fish. Perez turned heads in his major-league debut in 2023 when he went 5-6 with a 3.15 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.13 WHIP with 108 strikeouts and 31 walks in 91 1/3 innings over his first 19 starts. He'll probably be a much better fantasy investment next year, but he also shouldn't be ignored when he returns this year. However, he might be a little rusty, and the Marlins figure to limit his innings.

Eury Perez A Month Away From Rehab Assignment
Eury Perez (elbow) threw 45 pitches to live hitters on Monday and got up and down three times, according to manager Clayton McCullough. It's looking like Perez is around a month from potentially beginning a minor-league rehab assignment as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery that he had in April of last year. If the 22-year-old can avoid any setbacks in his long recovery, he could be an option to make his 2025 season debut sometime in the middle of May. He still has a ways to go, but the Dominican hurler is an intriguing fantasy stash because of what he did in his rookie campaign in 2023. Perez posted a sharp 3.15 that year to go with a 1.13 WHIP, 108 strikeouts and 31 walks in just 91 1/3 innings in 19 starts. Given his lack of experience, expect the Marlins to treat him with kid gloves upon his return from TJ surgery.

Eury Perez Throws Bullpen On Friday
Eury Perez (elbow) threw a bullpen session before the team's game against the division-rival Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on Friday, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. Back in Miami, pitchers Declan Cronin (hip) and Jesus Tinoco (back) also threw bullpens. Perez is working his way back from Tommy John surgery in April of last year. While it's good news that he's ramping up his arm, the 21-year-old isn't expected to be an option to make his 2025 season debut until around the All-Star break in the middle of July. The Dominican pitcher had all the makings of a future fantasy ace in his rookie season in 2023 when he went 5-6 with a 3.15 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.13 WHIP with 108 strikeouts and 31 walks in his first 19 starts over 91 1/3 innings pitched. There's a lot to like with the young hurler's profile, but fantasy managers need to remember that he's only 21 years old and might not be as sharp in the second half in 2025. He'll be a much better fantasy investment in single-year leagues in 2026.
