Erik Jones Will Likely Be Stifled by Injury and Lack of Speed
6 months agoWhile Erik Jones had some good road course runs for Joe Gibbs Racing, this track type has clearly not been his metier since he lost the No. 20 ride in the NASCAR Cup Series and switched to the No. 43 car, particularly since the introduction of the Next Gen car. In his three Sonoma starts in the No. 43, Jones has finished 11th, 22nd, and 32nd, and he hasn't finished better than 16th on a road course since the start of 2023. He qualified last for his weekend's race alongside his teammate, John Hunter Nemechek, and is still recovering from the injury he suffered at Talladega. When you further consider the recent revelation that Legacy Motor Club is not getting as much factory support from Toyota as Joe Gibbs Racing and 23XI Racing, it's hard to envision even a decent run from That Jones Boy today.
