Erik Jones Should Contend for Top Ten Finish
1 year agoAlthough Erik Jones has had much slower cars this year than he did last year since Chevrolet withdrew funding from the Legacy Motor Club team after they announced their switch to Toyota, Jones is still quietly delivering solid performances especially on unrestricted superspeedways. In the last four races on such tracks at Loudon, Pocono, Michigan, and Darlington, he finished between 9th and 11th in each one and he has earned a top twenty finish in every such event since Gateway despite only ranking 27th in points and 26th in speed. In the five previous races on flat intermediates this season, he has had a speed percentile of 55.86%, which is substantially faster than his overall speed percentile of 41.73%. While Jones doesn't have winning speed, a top fifteen is probable and he has a strong chance at a top ten.
