Erik Jones Qualifies 29th For the Xfinity 500
1 year agoErik Jones will start 29th in Sunday's Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Despite looking like a star on the rise over the last few seasons, Jones has had a disappointing 2023. Not only does he have six fewer top 10s this season than he had last year, but his average finish of 20.4 is the worst he has recorded as a full-time Cup driver. Heading into Sunday's race, there is little reason to think that this will be the week where he has his bounce back, as Martinsville is a track he has struggled at throughout his Cup career. With this said, given his starting position and low salary ($6,700), Jones cannot be entirely ignored when building your lineups. While certainly not a driver that you would want to go overweight on, there is enough place differential upside to make the No. 43 a dart throw play this Sunday at Martinsville.
