Erik Jones Hoping To Find Magic At Homestead
1 year agoHomestead-Miami Speedway hasn't been the best race track for Erik Jones, which is a bit surprising considering he is so good at Darlington Raceway--another high-wear intermediate track on the schedule. In six career Cup Series starts at Homestead, Jones has just one finish inside the top 20, and that was a third-place result back in 2019 while he was driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. Here at Homestead last season, Jones struggled quite a bit and walked away with a 30th-place finish. However, Legacy Motor Club has found additional speed on intermediate tracks in the second season with the NextGen car, and that makes Jones optimistic that he will be able to turn it around. Jones stated, "[Homestead] is a track that we struggled at a bit last year, but I feel like our 1.5-mile stuff has gotten a good chunk better than our last trip." The No. 43 Chevrolet qualified 19th for Sunday's race at Homestead, so Jones appears to be off to a decent start on getting on track here, but he's nowhere near a guarantee to get a good result on Sunday.
