Erik Gustafsson Facing Long-Term Absence
1 day agoDetroit Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson (undisclosed) will face an extended absence, according to the team. Gustafsson was not practicing on Thursday after suffering this injury during Tuesday's contest against the Washington Capitals. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status but he currently carries an unknown timetable. The Red Wings also promoted Brogan Rafferty from Grand Rapids to operate as a depth defenseman. Over his previous 12 games, Gustafsson has tallied five points (all helpers) with 14 shots on goal, eight hits, and nine blocked shots. Through 60 games this season, the 33-year-old has found the back of the net twice and added 16 helpers with a -19 rating. While he remains out, fantasy managers should expect either Rafferty or William Lagesson to enter the starting lineup.

Erik Gustafsson Sits Out Sunday's Game
5 months agoDetroit Red Wings defenseman Erik Gustafsson will come out of the lineup for Sunday's contest against Edmonton. He will be a healthy scratch for the third time this season. The Red Wings brought Gustafsson in on a two-year, $4 million contract this offseason to add some offense to the blue line, but the Swedish rearguard has been a disappointment so far. Despite averaging over three minutes of power-play time (3:19), Gustafsson has only two assists with 10 shots in six games for the season. Justin Holl also takes a seat on Sunday, with Olli Maatta and Albert Johansson drafted into the lineup.

Erik Gustafsson Tallies Three Assists Versus Toronto
1 year agoNew York Rangers defenseman Erik Gustafsson enjoyed his reunion with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, producing three assists in a 5-2 win. With the game tied at two in the third period, Gustafsson set up Braden Schneider in an even-strength situation and helped Artemi Panarin register a power-play goal. He was also eager to get a goal against his former team, finishing with three shots on the net. Gustafsson has ended an eight-game dry spell with four points in two games, but he's stuck on the third defensive pairing when everybody is healthy, making it difficult for him to provide consistent offense.

Erik Gustafsson Traded To Toronto
2 years agoThe Toronto Maple Leafs continued to rework their backline with another move on Tuesday, trading for defenseman Erik Gustafsson. The team gave up fellow blue-liner Rasmus Sandin and also received a 2023 first-round draft pick in the deal. Gustafsson has played a major part in Washington this season due to John Carlson's (face) injury and boasts 38 points through 61 games. He will likely have a tough time replicating the numbers in Toronto, with the Maple Leafs blue line now full of quality. Meanwhile, Sandin, who's also been in fine form this season, should get a bigger role in D.C., which will boost his fantasy value. The 22-year-old has tallied 20 points across 52 outings with 58 shots on goal, 113 hits and 59 blocks.
