Eric Thames Hits Pinch Hit Homer Sunday
6 years agoMilwaukee Brewers first baseman Eric Thames came in to the 8th inning and Sunday's game and hit a home run to tie the game. That now makes two homers in Thames last three games and also raises his batting average to .270. While Thames only has one at bat in each of his last two games, the real fantasy news has to do with Jesus Aguilar, who went 0-for-4 again on Sunday and lowered his average to .136. The Brewers are looking to win their division this year, and won't wait for Aguilar to come around if Thames starts to heat up again. For now, Thames is far from a must own, but if he is able to edge out Aguilar in playing time and take advantage, Thames could end up being must own. After all, Thames did hit .274 with 35 homers in 2018. If given consistent playing time in an even better offense, Thames could be great.

Eric Thames Signs With The A's
3 years agoFree-agent first baseman/outfielder Eric Thames signed a minor league deal with the Oakland Athletics on Friday, according to a source. Thames is a South Bay native that had most of his season in Japan last year wiped out by a torn Achilles. The 35-year-old left-handed slugger spent four seasons in Major League Baseball before that with the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals. He also played in 181 games for the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners from 2011-12 before spending two years in Korea. Thames' breakout season came in 2017 with Milwaukee, when he had an .877 OPS with 31 home runs in 138 games played. In 2020 with the Nationals, he slashed just .203/.300/.317 in 41 games.
