Eric Lauer Off To Strong Start
5 years agoMilwaukee Brewers pitcher Eric Lauer started Sunday's spring game against the Reds and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings. He allowed only two hits and struck out five, walking no one. Brewers manager Craig Counsell said recently that Lauer was competing with Freddy Peralta for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. Lauer has certainly responded and has been very sharp in his first two appearances. Peralta has also pitched very well, so it will be intriguing to watch how the next few weeks play out. Lauer was acquired by the Brewers in November. He had a 4.45 ERA in 149 2/3 innings over 30 appearances for the Padres in 2019. He has the ceiling of a back-end starter and would only offer minimal value, even if he wins the fifth spot in the rotation.
