Eric Haase Claimed Off Waivers From Tigers
1 year agoThe Cleveland Guardians claimed catcher Eric Haase off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on Monday and designated catcher Zack Collins for assignment in a corresponding move. Haase will remain in the American League Central after being designated for assignment by Detroit last week. The 30-year-old backstop was originally drafted by Cleveland in the seventh round in 2011, and he made his major-league debut for the team back in 2018. He will immediately become the Guardians' backup catcher behind rookie Bo Naylor with Cam Gallagher (concussion) and David Fry (hamstring) currently sidelined with injuries. Haase hit just .201/.246/.284 with four home runs, 26 RBI, three stolen bases and 22 runs scored in 86 games for the Tigers this year before being cut.
