Emmanuel Clase Stumbles Monday Night
4 years agoCleveland Indians relief pitcher Emmanuel Clase took the loss on Monday night as he allowed the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Clase retired the first batter before allowing the next two on via a single and a walk, respectively. He then induced a ground ball from Nick Williams that was set up perfectly for an inning-ending double play before Yu Chang threw it off Yasmani Grandal's helmet, which then allowed the winning run to score. It was a tough break for Clase and the Tribe, and it is not great that he allowed two runners aboard even though it was a non-save situation. The closer role in Cleveland is far from a sure thing, but Clase may still be the guy to roster despite tonight's shortcomings.
