Emmanuel Clase Picks Up Four-Out Save Thursday
1 year agoCleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase notched his league-leading 21st save on Thursday, recording the final four outs of an 8-6 victory over the San Diego Padres. Clase was brought in with a runner at second and two outs in the eighth, and got Manny Machado to ground out to end the threat. He then pitched a clean ninth, allowing just a walk while striking out one. The cutter specialist has been tremendous since the calendar flipped to June, allowing just four baserunners in six innings while striking out 10. He has also recorded four saves in that time span. He has been well worth his high draft price and should continue to be one of, if not the best closer in the league.
