Emerson Hancock Puts Together Impressive Start
2 years agoSeattle Mariners pitching prospect Emerson Hancock put together an impressive performance for Double-A Arkansas on Tuesday evening. The first-round pick of 2020 went six innings and allowed four hits, one walk, no runs and struck out seven. Hancock, 24, has battled injuries since being drafted sixth overall a few years back and that has stalled his development. With him fully healthy so far in 2023, Hancock has put together a better season than his 5.44 ERA would suggest over 11 starts. Much is because he has allowed 30 runs on the season, but 23 of those runs have come across three dreadful starts. Provided that he remains healthy, Hancock should take a jump to Triple-A this season and if that goes well, the right-hander may get a shot with the big-league club this summer. He's worth monitoring in redraft leagues with his biggest value being in dynasty leagues.

Gregory Santos Reinstated, Emerson Hancock Optioned
9 months agoThe Seattle Mariners reinstated right-hander Gregory Santos (lat) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned right-hander Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move, according to executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander. A right-lat strain has kept Santos from making his Mariners debut this year to this point, but he will now join Seattle's bullpen as a key late-inning setup man. Santos features a high-90s heater and could quickly become relevant in fantasy leagues that reward points for holds. Hancock, 25, gets sent back to the farm after making a spot start on Saturday against the Blue Jays, when he gave up two runs in four innings of work. Hancock should be back with the M's again in 2024 when they're in need of more rotation help.

Emerson Hancock To Start On Saturday
9 months agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Emerson Hancock has been recalled to start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. The 25-year-old is already on the taxi squad, but will get the official call prior to Saturday's contest. Hancock has a 4.79 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 24/13 K/BB ratio across eight starts this season. The Mariners are hopeful Hancock can develop into a reliable everyday option, but he isn't quite there yet. He'll be a somewhat shaky option for Saturday's slate.

Emerson Hancock Heads Back To Triple-A
10 months agoThe Seattle Mariners optioned right-hander Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma after his start on Thursday and recalled right-hander Cody Bolton from Tacoma on Friday. Hancock made a spot start against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday and delivered a quality start, allowing only two runs in seven innings of work. But despite the solid showing, the 25-year-old will head back to the farm to continue his development. The former sixth overall pick in 2020 out of Georgia had a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with six strikeouts and three walks in three starts in his rookie year in 2023. In eight starts so far in 2024, he's 3-3 with a 4.79 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 24 K's and 13 walks in 41 1/3 innings pitched. Hancock will most likely be back to help out in Seattle's rotation at some point this year, at which point he'll be a streaming option in fantasy in deeper leagues.

Emerson Hancock Getting The Start Thursday
10 months agoSeattle Mariners right-hander Emerson Hancock is being called up to make the start on Thursday against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Hancock will return from Triple-A Tacoma in an excellent matchup that should have savvy fantasy managers looking for a streamer on Thursday pretty happy. With the Mariners in a stretch with just one off day in the next 14 days, the 25-year-old will offer Seattle's rotation a little reprieve, especially with Bryan Woo (arm) uncertain for his next start. Right-hander Luis Castillo will now be pushed back to the weekend against the division-rival Texas Rangers. Hancock last made a big-league start on May 7 and had a 5.24 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in his seven starts before being sent to Tacoma. Although he hasn't been special in the big leagues early in his career, the matchup is great and he had a 2.17 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in five starts down on the farm.
