Emerson Hancock Enters Seattle's Rotation
Emerson Hancock will now open the 2024 season in the team's starting rotation as the fifth starter with Bryan Woo (elbow) starting the year on the injured list due to elbow inflammation. The 24-year-old Hancock, the former sixth overall pick in 2020 out of Georgia, is lined up to make his first start of 2024 next Monday in a strong matchup against the Cleveland Guardians. He made his MLB debut in 2023 and went 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA (4.09 FIP) and a 1.33 WHIP with three walks and six strikeouts in 12 innings over three starts before being shut down with a shoulder ailment. Until Hancock shows more consistency, fantasy managers in mixed leagues can probably ignore him, especially since he could only make a few starts for Seattle before being sent back to the farm.

Gregory Santos Reinstated, Emerson Hancock Optioned
Gregory Santos (lat) from the 60-day injured list on Monday and optioned right-hander Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move, according to executive vice president and general manager of baseball operations Justin Hollander. A right-lat strain has kept Santos from making his Mariners debut this year to this point, but he will now join Seattle's bullpen as a key late-inning setup man. Santos features a high-90s heater and could quickly become relevant in fantasy leagues that reward points for holds. Hancock, 25, gets sent back to the farm after making a spot start on Saturday against the Blue Jays, when he gave up two runs in four innings of work. Hancock should be back with the M's again in 2024 when they're in need of more rotation help.

Emerson Hancock To Start On Saturday
Emerson Hancock has been recalled to start against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. The 25-year-old is already on the taxi squad, but will get the official call prior to Saturday's contest. Hancock has a 4.79 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 24/13 K/BB ratio across eight starts this season. The Mariners are hopeful Hancock can develop into a reliable everyday option, but he isn't quite there yet. He'll be a somewhat shaky option for Saturday's slate.

Emerson Hancock Heads Back To Triple-A
Emerson Hancock to Triple-A Tacoma after his start on Thursday and recalled right-hander Cody Bolton from Tacoma on Friday. Hancock made a spot start against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday and delivered a quality start, allowing only two runs in seven innings of work. But despite the solid showing, the 25-year-old will head back to the farm to continue his development. The former sixth overall pick in 2020 out of Georgia had a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with six strikeouts and three walks in three starts in his rookie year in 2023. In eight starts so far in 2024, he's 3-3 with a 4.79 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 24 K's and 13 walks in 41 1/3 innings pitched. Hancock will most likely be back to help out in Seattle's rotation at some point this year, at which point he'll be a streaming option in fantasy in deeper leagues.

Emerson Hancock Getting The Start Thursday
Emerson Hancock is being called up to make the start on Thursday against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Hancock will return from Triple-A Tacoma in an excellent matchup that should have savvy fantasy managers looking for a streamer on Thursday pretty happy. With the Mariners in a stretch with just one off day in the next 14 days, the 25-year-old will offer Seattle's rotation a little reprieve, especially with Bryan Woo (arm) uncertain for his next start. Right-hander Luis Castillo will now be pushed back to the weekend against the division-rival Texas Rangers. Hancock last made a big-league start on May 7 and had a 5.24 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in his seven starts before being sent to Tacoma. Although he hasn't been special in the big leagues early in his career, the matchup is great and he had a 2.17 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in five starts down on the farm.
