Eli Manning Will Start As Long As Team Is In Playoff Race
5 years agoNew York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is expected to remain the team's starter this year "as long as we're in the playoff race," according to team officials. Head coach Pat Shurmur still believes in Manning, so it looks like the Giants will give him a long leash despite the fact that rookie Daniel Jones exceeded expectations by a long shot with how he looked in training camp and the preseason. "I think (Manning) has had an outstanding offseason," Shurmur said on Friday. "I think he's had, in my mind, an outstanding camp." If Manning is struggling this year but the Giants are winning, one source said there's "no way" that Shurmur benches the veteran. Manning's declining skills make him unattractive as even a QB2, and we'd be surprised if he lasted the full year as the starter. While Daniel Jones isn't a good redraft option even if he starts games in 2019, he's an excellent guy to have in dynasty leagues.
