Edwin Diaz On Pace To Break Saves Record
6 years agoSeattle Mariners closer Edwin Diaz currently leads all pitchers with 36 saves heading into the second half of the season. The right-hander is currently on pace to break the Major League record of 62 saves in a season and has been dominant all year. He has three blown saves this season but hasn't coughed up a lead since June 1. For the season, Diaz has struck out 79 hitters in only 48 innings with a 2.25 ERA and a microscopic 0.79 WHIP.. The most impressive stat of Diaz' season is that he has allowed 12 earned runs all season and six of those runs have come solely against the Texas Rangers. Diaz is having a season for the ages and pitching for the playoff-hungry Mariners should set him up for plenty of save chances in the second half of the season.
