Edwin Diaz Makes Quick Work Of The Phillies
4 years agoNew York Mets closer Edwin Diaz worked a clean ninth inning on Wednesday to preserve the Mets' 5-1 win over the Phillies. Though it was not a save situation, Diaz was called upon to get the final three outs of the contest. Diaz struck out two batters and allowed no hits or walks in his one inning of work. In four appearances and three and 2/3 innings pitched on the young season, Diaz now owns a 4.91 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP to go with four strikeouts. Diaz has not yet converted a save, given that the Mets have not yet had a save opportunity. Managers should remain patient as the saves will come for Diaz in 2021. Diaz remains one of the top closer options in baseball while pitching for a Mets team that will be in playoff contention this season.
