Edwin Diaz Blows Third Straight Save Opportunity
3 years agoCalled on to preserve a one-run lead in the ninth inning on Monday against the Reds, New York Mets relief pitcher Edwin Diaz failed to get the job done once again. In one inning of work, Diaz gave up one earned run on one walk and one hit, though he did strike out two. The Mets would, fortunately, go on to a win 15-11 in 11 innings. This latest outing by Diaz comes on the heels of his spectacular blown save and loss in Pittsburgh on Saturday. In his last three outings, all blown saves, Diaz has now allowed seven earned runs over three innings. Diaz has been nothing short of awful in July, posting a 12.00 ERA, a 2.50 WHIP, with six walks, and three blown saves in six innings pitched, despite saving three games. At this point, fantasy managers may wish to place Diaz on the bench until he can hopefully turn things around, at the expense of getting a save or two.
