Edwin Diaz Blows Save In Possible Last Mets Appearance
5 years agoIn what could've been his last appearance in a New York Mets uniform, closer Edwin Diaz entered in the ninth inning with a one-run lead against the White Sox Tuesday night. Pitching at Guaranteed Rate Field, the 25-year-old walked the first batter, hit another and threw a couple of wild pitches before a sacrifice fly tied things up. If this was his final outing with the Mets, it was symbolic of what his season has been. This was Diaz's fifth blown save of the season, more than his total with the Mariners in 2018. The performance also cost Noah Syndergaard a win after a dominant start. Regardless, Diaz is sure to remain in trade talks as the trade deadline nears.
