6 years agoThe Texas Rangers placed starting pitcher Edinson Volquez on the injured list on Friday with a right elbow sprain. Reliever Kyle Bird has been called up from the minors to replace him on the roster. The plan for now is for the Rangers to move Lance Lynn and Drew Smyly up a day for their next starts and have Adrian Sampson start next Saturday. Volquez was predictably bad in his first two starts, yielding 10 hits and six earned runs in 7 2/3 innings while walking eight and striking out six batters. The veteran right-hander might be staring retirement in the face if he's dealing with another ulnar collateral ligament injury.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
