Dylan Cease Throws Second No-Hitter In Padres History
4 months agoSan Diego Padres right-hander Dylan Cease made history in his outing in Thursday's series finale against the hosting Washington Nationals, throwing only the second no-hitter in franchise history. Cease walked three and struck out nine while throwing a total of 114 pitches in the special outing in San Diego's 3-0 victory to emphatically sweep the three-game series in D.C. Joe Musgrove had the team's first-ever no-hitter back on April 9, 2021, on the road against the Texas Rangers. It was even more impressive for Cease, who was forced to wait through an 86-minute rain delay before he took the mound. Acquired in a trade with the White Sox before Opening Day in 2024, Cease has been the Friars' best pitcher and had given up only one hit in each of his previous two starts before Thursday's gem.
