Dylan Cease Shuts Down Cincinnati
4 years agoChicago White Sox starter Dylan Cease had another breakout performance against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. The White Sox hurler allowed only one hit across six brilliant innings, striking out 11 and walking three. Cease has now allowed only seven base runners over his past 13 innings, giving up zero runs and striking out 20. The former consensus top-50 prospect appears to have figured out major league hitting in his third season. Manager Tony La Russa oversaw the masterful careers of Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright in St. Louis, and there are certainly parallels between those two and the tandem of Lucas Giolito and Cease in Chicago. Fantasy managers who remained patient after Cease's early season mediocrity are now reaping the benefits. Pitching in the American League Central, Cease has only faced the Tigers and Indians one combined time, so the best has yet to come.
