Dylan Cease Enjoying Strong Spring
3 years agoChicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease has looked great on the mound over his two spring starts. He's pitched a total of seven innings and allowed three hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out eight. The 26-year-old had a breakout season in 2021, leading the majors with 12.3 K/9. He stayed healthy throughout the year and made 32 starts while going 13-7 with a 3.91 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. There are few potential red flags for Cease going into 2022. He gave up a lot of hard contact with a 9.9% barrel rate that ranked in the bottom 15% of the league. However, he had a HR/FB rate of just 11.3%. That was a significant decrease from 2020, when he had an 18.2% HR/FB rate despite allowing a lower barrel rate (8.8%). RotoBaller has him ranked as the 23rd overall starting pitcher. He's a solid target as a No. 2 or No. 3 starter. His strikeout potential and win potential are elite, but he's got a little risk attached to him.
