Ducks Assign Olen Zellweger To The AHL
10 months agoThe Anaheim Ducks have assigned rookie defenseman Olen Zellweger to the American Hockey League's San Diego Gulls. The move was expected as it gives the blueliner a chance to play two AHL contests while the Ducks head into the All-Star break and subsequent bye week. He is expected to rejoin the big club when they return to action on Feb. 9. The 20-year-old has appeared in four games with the Ducks, tallying one assist and a plus-two rating in that time. He has spent the bulk of the season with the Gulls, recording eight goals and 25 points across 34 games in his first professional season following a successful five-year career in the Western Hockey League. The Ducks currently sit third-last in the NHL with an 18-30-2 record and will have a shot at another high draft pick after drafting center Leo Carlsson second overall in 2023.
