Drew Smyly Declines Option, Considering Cubs Reunion
2 years agoStarting pitcher Drew Smyly declined his $10 million mutual option with the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, but remains in contact with the club on a possible new deal, per NBC Sports' Gordon Wittenmyer. The 33-year-old had a nice bounce-back 2022 season, going 7-8 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 20.4% strikeout rate over 22 starts and 106 1/3 innings pitched. He has served as a useful back-of-the-rotation fantasy option at times throughout his career and would be one once again in 2023 if he can replicate his 2022 performance, regardless of what team he plays on.
