4 years agoSan Diego Padres reliever Drew Pomeranz fanned three batters in his relief appearance Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 32-year-old showed no ill effects from the sore forearm he dealt with during spring training, permitting a single in one inning of work and collecting the hold. Fellow reliever Mark Melancon was tabbed to slam the door on Opening Day, so Pomeranz may be strategically used in high-leverage situations with an opportunity to poach a handful of saves.
